TODEPOND PONDCAST: Tadi web

(slippy mindset)

Hello friends. It's time for another weekly episode of the...

🐸 TODEPOND PONDCAST 🐸

What's new this week?

Tadi web

I've been away again. This time in New York. It really has been a crazy summer/autumn! Portugal is next, and then that's it.

Oh boy... This video is taking so long to make. All these extra events are just making it worse. I'm never going to make a release date estimation again. Thanks for sticking around in the meantime!

Anyway, all of this time away has allowed me to reflect on things. One of those things is... hmm... Ok just a second.

~

In St Louis, I watched a talk by Devine. It was partly about minimal computing. And it's available to watch now!

I had a chat with Devine after the conference too. They told me to make a wiki.

A wiki is a type of website. And I've been making websites for a long time. I do it for my job now. I also do it for fun.

But now... I have so many thoughts swirling around about how to make a website. The way I do it nowadays is very different to how I started. Some things are better. Some things are worse. I'm trying to figure out what they are.

My websites are more impressive. But they take much longer to make. And they're harder to maintain. And they're slower. What changed?

So if I make a wiki, how should I do it? I'm trying to figure out an approach that takes the best of both worlds. I've been thinking about it for a few weeks now. In tode years, that's not very long. But I call it the "tadi web". Tadi like a tadpole. I'll keep you updated!

Pre-seed

I don't mention DreamBerd much in these pondcasts. Mainly because it could get a bit annoying. It's by far my most popular project, and sometimes it overshadows the other ones.

But over the past two weeks, I've tried to use DreamBerd's platform to raise some money for charity. It was originally in the form of a joke: DreamBerd was raising an investment round. And then I announced the real reason: All the money will be going to the Stonewall charity.

Thank you to everyone who trusted me enough to donate before the reveal. And thank you to everyone who donated to the cause afterwards. We've raised over £410 so far!

Portugal

I'm going to Portugal next week, to present CellPond at a conference. This week, I'm getting some things ready for it.

I need to finish planning the demo. And I'm adding a couple of extra features to CellPond.

I want there to be a visual indicator for when it's paused. Mainly because... in every other demo I've done, I've left it paused or unpaused by accident :)

I was considering adding some more control features, like pause, rewind, and so on. This is because some of the feedback I got recommended it. But I've decided against it because it's BORING. And it's a pretty solved problem. Dave Ackley's Moveable Feast Machine Simulator (MFMS) already does this really well.

And the biggest feature I'm adding is something that I removed from an earlier version. In the 🤖 Nothing video, you could change around colours with the diamond shape. It was really complicated so I removed it and replaced it with a hexagon for the ⚡ Spellular Automata video. Unfortunately, this was even more complicated and less powerful. So I'm going to remove it again and allow the triangle shape do its job in a simpler way.

Here goes nothing! Thanks for helping me out with all of this, and for bearing with me. Welcome to all the new people this week! And welcome back to all the old-timers. Wherever you are in the world... whatever you're doing... I hope you have a great week.
